DVD DW316
Hi,
Like to equire/confrm the Dell DW316 can write to double layer i.e. DVD + R DL
and will work on Windows XP.
Also does DVD drive need a driver or not and where can i find it if XP machine not connected to internet (as i cant find an anti virus that can work on XP)

The DW316 User's Guide page 5 states = CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW/RAM/+R/+RW/+R DL/-R DL, M-DISC (DVD+R SL) read and write compatible
The DW316 was never tested by Dell in Windows XP. We can see here that the DW316 only has drivers for = Windows 8.1/10/11, Ubuntu Desktop 7.04, Apple MAC OS

To expand, the drive is not sufficient -- you will need to find a copy of an old version of writing software that has DL support. That could be Roxio, Nero, etc. -- or one of a host of other software packages. You won't be able to natively write DVDs without software under XP.

The drive should work fine with Windows XP. It will automatically install the required driver needed to detect and use the drive. However, you won't be able to use the provided Cyberlink software suite disc on a XP/Vista system, as that contains versions of programs that need at least Windows 7 in order to run. You will have to find an alternative program that supports Windows XP and can write to dual layer DVDs, as disc burning in the Windows XP Explorer is limited to standard CDs.
