DVD not reading new disk data

I'm having an odd problem with my DVD drive. If I insert a new disk, the drive continues to show what was on the previous disk. If I press refresh there is no change. If I leave the disk in there, then after a period of time (30 mins or so) the disk becomes readable.

At first I thought the problem was with Sonic DLA, becuase if I went to the drive properties, and turned the Sonic DLA off, then the disk showed the correct info. However, after removing DLA the problem remains.

I can also fix the problem by unenabling the drive from the properties window, and then re-enabling it. However, its annoying to do this whenever you change the disk.

This happens with any disk, and once the data is shown, everything works fine, so it cannot be a disk problem.

Apologies if this has come up before. I did check the board, but I didn't see anything quite like my problem. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi Paul,

Dell released a BIOS update for the 8400 to address issues with ATAPI devices, consider giving this a try.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

That does seem to help. The title of the disk still does not get updated, but the data does, so that's a big improvement.

Thanks for your help.

Paul.
