DVD not recognized

I have a new DELL OptiPlex running Windows 2000 Professional SP4. It came with a CDRW/DVD with Roxio Easy CD Creator. At first I could not burn CD's or DVD's but I could read info from either. I went to Roxios web page and upgraded teh software and now I can burn a CD but I still cannot burn a DVD.  Any help with this would be appreciated.

Hi Softball,

We just had another post from a young lady dealing with CDRW/DVD drive, your drive may be a combo DVD-ROM (reader) & CD/RW drive, please post the model and someone should be able to verify this for you.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

As Jeff has suggested, the GCC-4481B is a combo CDRW/DVD drive.  That means it will read and
write CDR and CDRW discs, but will only read DVD discs.  It cannot write to DVD discs.

Man do feel like an idiot, you are correct it is not a CD writer only a reader. Thanks for opening my eyes.

It is a CD writer but it is not a DVD writer, only a DVD reader.
