DVD Region Code 0

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 with the Sony DVD+-RW DW-Q58A.

I recently acquired a Tony Bennett DVD (groan you say) with a region code of 0.

Since 0 really isn't a recognizable code how do I get it to play in my DVD.

Hacking suggestions welcome.

Firmware upgrades from Dell preferred.

As I understand it, the newer firmware used on the DVD Drives is probably Region specific. That is it is set for a particular region. Region 1 in for US on the laptop.

I don't believe the DVD Drive Firmware understands Region 0.

I also have a CD that says "All".  in the globe. This won't play either.

Both CD's play fine in my Panasonic DVD player.

Thoughts?

DVD Region 0 is a universal region ... should play everywhere.

With a Region 0 disc, all regions are enabled so as to allow the
DVD to play regardless of the drives region.  You can make your
drive set to any region you wish, but you can only do so five times
before it locks to the last region.

You can make your drive Region Free (by software or hardware) but that
subject is not allowed to be discussed on the Dell Community Forum.
You could Google search DVD Region Free.

Thanks for the replies. Since I was using Windows Media Center I tried Real Player and ran into the same thing. But I was able to verify that the DVD was formatted for all regions. So I then went out to the DVD properties using Real Player and it indicated that the drive did not have a region selected, although I had been out there thru Device Manager and it indicated it was set for Region 1.

So I had nothing to loose and I reset the region to 1 and guess what, it worked? Go figure.

Glad you got it working.  Best regards.

If my region code on my computer is set at free, why isn't it playing a disc set for US and Canada? Is it the disc that is stopping the operation? Should I just set my region code at this if I'm not planning to buy any pirated dvds, but only watching ones that I buy from stores in the US?
