No, I am not getting a message. I have not put the DVD in the DVD player yet. I was reading the message off of the DVD case. I do have a DVD player. My concern is to make sure that my DVD player will support this DVD.

What is the exact message? Does it say not to use the disc in a 2x DVD±RW or something?

Sorry, I'm just being dense. :)

Ok, since you will only be reading the disc, it makes no difference what drive you read it in. Must be some pretty old media. Is this some sort of home movie or something?

I would guess you are getting that message because you do not have a DVD±RW drive, you have a DVD-ROM. You cannot write DVDs, only read them. If you are interested in a DVD writer, I'd be happy to recommend one.

My DVD is 8X DVD+R/RW CD-RW is this disk ok for this drive?

I case says : This disk is capable of recording at 2-2x speed. Due to drive defect, permanent damage could occur to hardware and media idf this disc is used with some older non-2X speed DVD-RW recorders. I need to make sure it is ok to use in my PC.

Hi Toby,

According to the Dell User Guide

GDR-8162B

The drive "should" support the media but honestly about the only way to be sure is try it.

Happy Holidays!

I am having a hard time figuring out how to Burn the DVD. I want to put Pictures on it and when I try the program ejects the DVD. The Programs that are on tis PC are, Create DVD/My DVD, Power DVD. Is there a link in Dells site that shows you step by step what to do. Again I am trying to put picture files ov DVD, not creating a video.

Hi Toby,

If we are still talking about the 8162B drive, unfortunately you will not be able to use this drive to burn DVD, data or video. This is a DVD-ROM drive (read-only) device, not a DVD+/-RW (writer/burner), sorry.
The drive supports "reading" the media that already has data on it but will not recognize blank DVD or CD media.

Merry Christmas!
