How are you trying to burn the blank DVD disc?  Are you using the Windows
built-in software or third-party software?

I have tried using both i cannot copy anything onto the blank disc but can play dvd movie

Look in the Device Manager .........


Start | Control Panel | System in classic view | Hardware tab | Device Manager


Click on the (+) next to DVD/CD-ROM drives.  This will reveal the Brand and Model of
drive.  Please post that.

Are you using the same media as in the past?  What is the media type and brand?
When looking at blank DVD media through Windows, it will show the drive as a
CD-ROM because Windows has not DVD burning capability.  Blank DVD media can
only be recognized throgh third-party software.

It has never worked and have only just got around to fixing it im using roxio
