Error code 2000-0723 XPS 8900

On a cold boot error code 2000-0723 comes up with drive failure or optics. Ran all diags and passes. After hitting continue system runs and power light is amber. If you restart (warm boot) light goes back to white and no error on screen. This only occurs on a cold boot. SSD is fine. I replaced the disk and same issue. System runs fine. I entered the error info at Dell and no response. Brand New - 6 weeks old.

I am going to request to return the system. No support from Dell on this and I'm not the only one as I have read. I did a full restore and secure and un-secure boot - Any ideas before I call for an RMA and buy a HP?

Hi Dellhome8900,

You should call Dell. I've seen others report this.

I have and they stated they have no idea and have never seen this error. Called again today for an update - reply was our system is down call back later. Very disappointed with Dell. I have purchased (4) other systems in the past with no issues, makes me wonder about their product.

I have the same problem and it's not good to hear that you are getting nowhere. Especially Dell not recognizing the code. If they would put more effort into pleasing the customer, than the vendor and security and the ability to monitor our actions, they would probably know what code this is, I too am becoming very disappointed also with windows 10 privacy.

I replaced the disk with a spare, same issue. I disconnected the CD/DVD and still the same issue. Their working of the problem is to ship me a new disk and CD/DVD. I'll be home tomorrow replacing both. System runs fine other than the error coming up on a cold boot. This has to be a timing issue with the bios/sata drivers.  If this ever gets fixed I will post the out come.

Well the new disk and CD/DVD arrived. Replaced and on the first cold boot same error code 2000-0723. Answered all the questions (new install) and Walla the same issue. So I call Dell and they had to start from the beginning on the first page. So after 30 mins of re-hashing the same issue, new ticket, personal data etc.… they now are sending me a new mother board. Now that I had a complete image and backup of the PC, I decided to fix the problem at hand. The worst that could happen was reload all the apps and re-register everything. I hate doing that, once is enough. So I changed the secure boot to un-secure and now saw the SSD. Since that was part of the raid to the disk, I formatted the SSD and then destroyed the partition. Re-installed my image to it and no more error 2000-0723 – Disk CD/DVD missing error on cold boot. Must have been something the system did not like there, I bet some programmer that wrote that code knows why. So then I turned the performance (cache) back on between the Disk and SSD thru the Intel Raid utility. Showed no errors before.  No more error on cold boot, power light stays white unless it hibernates. Cold or warm boot --no errors anymore and the PC runs fine like before. No loss of data and I’m sure happy no re-installs of any apps. Dell is great at paperwork, apologizing and sending parts. None better IMHO. I’ve been in the computer field for over 40 years now. To see such mediocrity is sad to me. We pay people to type and compile data instead of working the problem. Dell is a fine example of that today. So this fixed it for me, make sure you have a good image backup of the partitions on the OS disk before you try. Always test your backups and restores. They always become a need in the future when you least expect it. All I have to do is return the motherboard when I get it. What a wasted 10 hours on a Friday at home. Now to have a Martini or two.

I have been getting errors too.  First 2000-0151.  I ran all kinds of diagnostics on the SSD involved and no errors popped up.  I noted that the bios had never been updated.  I updated the bios and now the error code is 2000-0723 the hard drive.  In the previous check I also checked the hard drive.  No issues were found.
