Error code question for 600m

Question

My 2 year old Inspiron 600m laptop went to a blue screen and froze up. After hitting F12 and running the diagnostic software it showed a large number of error codes. I reformatted the hard drive, reloaded the factory software and it's now working however when I ran the diagnostic software again it shows the following error codes again:

IDE Disk s/n=NPOET

Read test 452A85N

Failed test, code 0F00:0244, msg block 65179779, 65179783, 65179784, 65179786, 65179790, 65179791, 65179793, 65179794

It also showed code 1000-0146 and 0F00: 1A44 once.

Could someone help me with what these codes refer to and if it’s okay to keep using it or is the hard drive toast?

The error codes that you got there refers to the hard drive. it means that the hard drive failed the diagnostics. And the hard drive really needs to be replaced. Though you were able to boot into windows after formatting the hard drive and reinstalling windows, there could be a possibility that after several use of the system, same bluescreen will appear or you won't be able to boot into windows again because of bad sectors on the hard drive.

Thanks for the reply and advise.   I'll start look for new drive, any suggestions on brands or sources for hard drives that may last a little longer?
