error codes
I have a XPS M1330, purchased last year. I haven't had any problems with it until about a month ago (figures right after warrenty is over). Started to freeze up every now and than than screen saver started not working. Computer said it was unable to start the screensaver. Thought about viruses and internet junk so I cleaned it up. Finally decided to uninstall virus software and could not! wouldn't let me, got it finally off the computer and reloaded and booted up computer....same issues, freezes locks up doesn't open anything. I ran the PRE-BOOTSYSTEM ASSESSMENT. Ran the tree (took forever) and came up with these three error codes
0f00:075d
Msg: IDE Device failed. The self test failedthe read portionof the test.
0f00: 0244
Msg: Block 105477084: uncorrectable data erroror media is write protected.
0f00: 1a44
Msg: Block 105477084: uncorrectable data erroror media is write protected.
I have found some similar errors here but some differances in how to fix the problem.
Sounds like I may need to replace the H/D?? Not sure
any help would be nice
thanks

Welcome to the forums :emotion-21:
I don't know what the media could be that is "write protected" - unless you've inadvertently left a disc in the optical drive?
But the first error message is definitely suggesting a problem of some sort with the hard drive :emotion-6:
Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? That might not work either of course, if there is a problem with the hard drive?
Have you tried booting from the OS disc? You may be able to do a 'repair' install, or perform a restore?
A repair install will leave everything previously installed in a backup file (WindowsOld.bak?).
But a 'restore' will completely wipe your whole hard drive though - before restoring it to its factory settings, so don't choose that option if you have important files you need to try and get off it first!

The media errors refer to bad sectors on the hard drive - replace the drive with a new one, and reload everything.

The solution is a new hard drive.

Does that mean I loose all my stuff? All that happened was that the power got turned off while i was working. Is it worth having someone try to save my files or do i just buy a new hard drive and start fresh?

You may not necessarily lose everything -- replace the drive, reload and purchase a second SATA cable so you can attach the original drive to the system once it's back up and running. See what you can copy.
You should also purchase a backup drive - as you've seen now -- there are two types of drives: those that have failed and those that will.
