Error & invalid path...pls help
Hi, I have been searching for several days trying to find a resolution to fix my comp. I have seen several posts so I am hoping someone might be able to help me
Here is the issue. I am trying to install Printshop 20 & when the installation starts I get error 1606 could not access network location \\office\my documents... ect...& it shows an invalid path (no C:\ ect). I was able to find some info online walking me through checking the registry for the following: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders. So I did this & found that the "my video" register was set with the \\ (ect..) & not C:\ (ect..) so I fixed that & it still won't work. (& yup I rebooted) I found that another reson for the error could be: A property listed in both the Property table & Directory table has been assigned an invalid path in the Property Manager. But this step talks about going to the property manager which since I have a Dell I am assuming was the device manager & then it said to verify that one of the properties is also listed in the directory table which could also be accessed via the direct editor well after that I was lost...LOL
I didn't see either of these in the device manager so I decided to stop. Another 2 possible causes listed in the article were these: 1.An invalid path has been hard coded into the Destination field of a feature or component. 2. An invalid path has been assigned to the value of INSTALLDIR under General Information > Product Properties.
I didn't know how to go about fixing these either on my dell. I search for the install directory and couldn't find anything. I am so frustrated. I really want to just dump everything & re-install Windows xp & dump the whole hard drive & start off fresh but I don't know how to do that either. I have searched online on how to do that but the sugesstions (hitting f8 & selecting factory reset.. that wasn't an option on my F8 list) I have a dell 8250. It was given to me by a friend. I have the software for it as well. It runs Windows Xp. I have a feeling it is something simple... I just can't find where the path that is wrong is...
Can anyone help?
Thank you

First, you make the CD/ROM/DVD the first boot device. Procedures for configuring a Dimension series system to boot to the CD/DVD drive.

After this you can use the following instructions.

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell>
While installing, delete all existing partitions (Paragraph 5) when you are prompted, then remake and format
them (Paragraphs 6 & 7), following by installing XP.
You will have to reload the drivers and applications, etc, that should be on the CDs sent with the computer, starting with the chipset driver.
After the installation, you will need to download and install the MicroSoft Critical Updates, plus any other updates you deem necessary, also remember to enable the firewall and install the AV software before going online.
