Error Message "Inaccessible Boot Device"

I have a Dell Latitude CP 166 (32 RAM/2GIG HD) that I have upscaled to a CPiD with a 400 Celeron processor, 2x128 EDO RAM sticks, BIOS A12 and a 12 GIG HD...

I have made this successful upgrade on two prior LT's...

I had a 12 GIG HD operational on another Latitude and the HD had WIN 2000 Prof and assorted other software loaded and the HD was operational.....

I installed the HD in the newly converted LT and I can't get passed the initial WIN 2000 Prof screen...

I get a blue screen with the message STOP....... Inaccessible_Boot_ Device...

When I look into setup I see that the BIOS is OK, the Processor, 236 RAM and BIOS A12 are being recognized.

I have the CPiD configured to boot in the following order.. Interrnal HD, CD... and then FDD.

Can't figure what the problem is..

Scandisk doesn't find any problems with the HD....

Should I re-format and load up the HD anew??????

HELP!!!!!!!

It sounds like a problem with the boot files on the harddrive. Try just running the W2k CD to refresh the W2k installation. Sometimes moving a Harddrive from one unit to another gives this result. If you made a W2k Emergency Rescue Disk, you might try that. Incidentally, I would set your boot order to Diskette, CD DRIVE and Harddrive last. That is the way I set all of mine, as BIOS looks for each in turn until it finds one that is bootable. If you follow either suggestion, you will need to do this 1st.

Prepared a detailed reply to your recent but I don't know if it got to you as it is not in the message string...

Let me know one way or the other (receipt of message) and we'll go from there.

Thanks

Nothing except this message and the original long one. Nothing in private messages either.

I was able to re-format (what a pain) the involved HD.

Got approx 90% of the orig software load re-installed and am working on the balance.

Thanks

I have the same problem with my Latitude CP. Try removing the hard drive and putting it back in. If that doesn't work, I don't know what will. If you get a reply that works, please reply to me about it. Thsnks.
