File Transfer Wizard won't reload my files
I posted in the software section asking for help backing up files. I don't know if I was in the wrong place or what but I received no help. Found something on the file transfer wizard and gave it a shot. Not enough room. Bought an internal drive, backed up to that and to dvd.Now it keeps wanting the first dvd no matter which one I put in. The dvd's and the new drive have img00001.dat thru img00007.dat there is also a status file. FSTW starts and starts organizing folders and then runs for 11 hrs.task manager shows no activity, says it's running.
I had to do this to reinstall XP. The install worked I have sound for the first time since before xmas. Now I just need all my stuff.
Thanks for the help

Hi, Geg:
Let's back up a bit (no pun intended). Are you trying to transfer files from one computer to another, or are you trying to restore your files from a set of backup discs?

Well. Backup disks. But.. I got it to work, I think. I started FAST,
chose new computer, chose disk not needed.
browsed to my dvd drive,I put in the first disk, It asked to see the first disk. tried all three disks, nothing.
Ran it again, chose old computer
, chose files only,
browsed to drive D where copies were stored when I made the disks.
Chose USMT-2.UNC There were 8 files in there. IMG00001-img00007, and a status file.
It completed in 5 minutes and said to go to the new computer. Clicked finish. (It took almost 5 hours to make the disks.)
Started FAST again, chose new computer, no disk needed, browsed to D:USMT-2.UNC,opened it another USMT-2 was inside.Opened it.
To shorten things it only copied fille #1 and the status file. Ran it any way.
Ran for ten minutes nicely(had the task manager with performance showing in the task bar) at 100%. Then the performance went to 0%.It hung.
Ran fast again, did the old computer thing again.
When I did the new computer part,I opened the second USMT2 and deleted the 2 files in it. Then I backed out to the first one, clicked select all and dragged them to the second folder and ran it.
It loaded My Documents and I found some of my outlook express files I'm not sure what to do next.

How about the external hard drive? Did you try that?
