Hi Wise,

Lets start fresh, go to Device Manager, if the drives are visible, select one, click uninstall, then select the second one, click uninstall, shutdown. Open the case and disconnect both drives including the power cable. Now re-boot and Clear the NVRAM, I listed the Dell article in the previous post.
Now pick one drive, make sure the jumper on the back is set to Cable Select, attach it to the "End" connection on the IDE cable, plug the power cable back in, now re-boot. Does this drive work, if not and it is the one you have the firmware update for, try running it now.
If it works, great! (We still need to test your second drive as the only device on the cable.) If not, then Uninstall it from Device Manager and attach your second drive as you did the first one and test it as mentioned.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

Hey Predator, thanks for the info, but before I go inside my case as I do not like to do unless it is the last resort. ummm I got a couple questions I want to check my BIOS to see if they are where they need to be How do I do that?? & also if my BIOS need to be changed cause they are off How do I do That? & Where to check to find out what my BIOS are suppose to be set to for my system? I talked to several people & they said if my BIOs are off then my drives will not be recoignized which is my problem.

Also I uninstalled & reinstalled my CD ROM drives but that did nothing to fix it, but when I reinstalled the drives I went to check on them & I noticed on my rewritable drive (CD RW) that my (record) Tab had disappeared How do I get that back? although that is the least of my worries right now but just in case I find something that gets them back working, I will know How to get back that (record) Tab.

I know, alot of questions this time, but this has been frustrating the heck out of me everything I try nothing works. I did run a Dell diagnostics Test & it came up error BIOS failed but then I ran it again & everything passed so that Diagnostics test aint to reliable.

Thanks again any Help to my questions would Help If all else fails I will try & go inside my case like you said.
