You may still be able to save some files, but you will not get everything at this point.

You'll need to disconnect this drive, install a new one, rebuild the OS, and then reattach the old drive as a secondary. Copy what you can.

There is no point in trying to reinstall Windows to this drive - it's dying, and chances are the install will fail and leave you with a totally unreadable drive.

Thanks for that.  Just out of interest,do you know why the repair option wouldn't respond - have you heard of that type of thing happening before?

Yes; once bad sectors develop, the drive is on its way to complete failure.
