Hard Drive Diagnostic Test Error Code 00F00:1328

I am having trouble with my Laptop.  It has periodically gone to a Blue Screen and will not restart.  The error Message was "UnAmountable Boot Volume".  In the past I have ran chkdsk \r to repair the problem.  Well now it will not repair.  Does this mean I need to have the Hard Drive replaced?  Where can I find the most reseanably priced repair facility?

When I replace my Hard Drive, will I lose all my DATA?  If not how can I recover DATA at a reasonable price?  Also if I replace my hard drive myself is that a difficult process?  Can you provide some steps to take to do that?

The diagnostic error is a hard error unrelated to anything you did with the operating system or CD. The drive is dying.

If you seek professional help with recovery, expect easily $1,000 and more likely 2-2.5 times that in costs. Data recovery is expensive, period.

I would proceed as above. Remove the drive, mount it into a 2.5" shell, attach it to a working system and see what's on it. If you did not delete the C partition, or, if you had the Norton backup, the D partition, you may be able to recover the data.

If you did delete the D partition and it had data on it, recovery isn't quite as simple, and you may need the help of a pro. You'll have to decide in that case whether your data is worth into the four figures to retrieve.

If the system still recognizes the drive as a hard drive with a valid partition, remove it, mount it into a 2.5" external USB drive case, and attach it to a working system by USB. Copy what you can read. If you can get your data that way you're all set.

If you need professional data recovery, it's not going to be inexpensive - it can easily run into thousands of dollars.

When you order your replacement drive, buy two - one to replace the failed drive and one to mount in the external case, for making backups in the future.

What brand of Hard Drive or Model would you recommend for my Inspiron 600m to get both the internal and external?  While I am doing this I guess I should increase the size of the Drive?  Right Now it is 30G?

I am not extremely computer savy and I believe I deleted a partition when I was trying to reinstall the Wiindow Operating System.  I didn't want to Format the C Drive so I deleted the other partition??  I am not sure at this point what the name was of the other Partition?  After I deleted it I realized I didn't have enough space to re-install XP I tried to format the C Drive.  The format started but said that it was not able to repair a "DLL" then the computer would not even recognize the C drive.  I was trying to reformat the Hard Drive using the DEVICE and DRIVERS CD but I think I will just have to replace the hard drive?  I don't know how to recover the deleted partition?

Yes, it means you need the hard drive replaced. It's an easy do-it-yourself job hardware wise - takes 10 minutes or less.

Reloading Windows is the time-consuming part - if you can't or won't do that, expect to pay about $300 to have Windows installed or configured - about 3-5 times the cost of the drive itself, because of the time involved.

ATA-6 and EIDE are interchangeable terms. You can use any standard, EIDE drive up through 120G.

I would try newegg.com, which will haver lower prices than Dell.

Is there a difference between an IDE Hard Drive versus a Hard Drive.  I have two purchasing Options.  I can Purchase a Hard Drive for my Inspiron 600M  that is 100GB /5400 RPM Easy Plug and Go ATA -6 Internal Hard Drive Upgrade, or I can go with the same type of Hard Drive 80GB IDE Hard Drive?  What is the difference?.  I find these parts on Dell Website.  If I provide Part #'s can you tell me if they are interchangable?
