Hard Drive Read Errors

I have received error code 650F:0244 on the read test on the SATA Dish and 650F:1A44 when the verify test was run when diagnostics programs from the CD was run .  The hard is disk is also making very odd noises that sound like static.  The power went out unexpectedly but up to now everything worked flawlessly. I am 3 months out of warranty.  It sounds like the hard drive is going bad.  The 1st time I booted up after the unplanned shutdown the computer would boot in the SAFE Mode but not the 2nd time.

My questions:  If I put in the OS disk and restore the drive and then run a scan disk is it likely that the system will run until I can install a new drive and copy over data?

Alternatively, would it be more time saving to just install a new hard drive now and not waste any time with the other?

Replace the drive ASAP, and do not use the faulty one in the meantime - you likely will be able to get your data from the drive. If you attempt a repair install, you could lose everything.

Thanks for the reply.  Can the bad drive be put in as a 2nd drive to copy data to the new drive?

It may be, as long as the drive isn't too far gone. If it's a SATA drive you'll need a data cable for it (there's only one in the system by default).
