Harddrive OS RunTime Error?

Hey, I have a Dimension Dell 4550 and recently it basically stopped working. It runs Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 2. When i start it up it tells me Run Time Error 5, and doesnt allow me to do anything. I can't even view my task manager, it'll only let me sign on in safe mode and won't even show me my desktop. all i can do is CTRL ALT DLT and log off. I can also still access command prompts when i start up in safe mode. I installed a new OS on the unpartitioned space, XP Home edition, SP 1. Which is what im currently using to type this message. Now, I could just reformat that part of the drive, but I have a lot of unbacked information and data on it that i'm not ready to lose. I tried to put in this xp home disk, and tried to repair the drive. but it's asking me for an admin password, and i dont remember ever having set an admin password. I only use my account which has administrator powers, but it won't accept the password I use to log on. So repairing isnt much of an option anymore. I also tried to access the Documents and Settings of that profile via this OS. but it tells me access is denied. Does anyone know how to bypass that? Has anyone had this problem, and does anyone know how i might retrieve this date? If you need any more information let me know. I'll check on this topic continuously. Try performing a XP Repair Reinstall.

After this, you will have to reinstall all the MicroSoft Critical Updates and, if not preinstalled with the operating system, SP-1/SP-2.
