HD Errors 2000-0146 Need to Replace HD?

Question

Dell XPS 420 about 3.5 yrs old.  Intel Core 2 Quad cpu Q6600 @ 2.40GHz  memory 3.0 gb 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM HD SAMSUNG HD642JJ   Unable to   boot OS.    Ran the pre-Boot System Assessment.   Error code 2000-0146, continued after the error and received error code 0F00 0232.  Did some research and it all points to need to replace the HD.   Does this sound correct?   Recently my PC was acting up not wanting to install programs, not able to remove programs, not able to search fo data.   I backed all my files up and did a complete system restore to factory settings and it was running fine for a day then froze up and was unable to reboot after this.   Question is also,  since this PC came with the System Restore Partition, how am I going to replace the HD if I don't have the Vista software?  Should I even keep Vista?  I'm stuck on what to do.   I do have the dell drivers and utilities CD.   If i do replace the HD what is the easiest way to do this and the cheapest lol.   also what kind of HD do I buy?   Thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated as I do not feel like sending my PC to a shop and pay alot of money to replace my HD. Rich

You do need a new drive.  Any standard desktop SATA drive will work fine. You can order a Windows disc from Dell: support.dell.com/.../backupcd_form

Ok, I received the new os discs and reinstalled the OS.   I'm a little confused on Which Drivers to install?   Any help would be appreciated.
