HD Setup Help?
I added a 2rd harddrive to my dim 8100 and i have both harddrives plug in to the same ide cable and my cd devices plug in the other ide cable, In setup window it says:
120gb HD Secondary Master-Partition 0
40gb HD Secondary Slave-Partition 0
CDRW/DVD Primary Master-Partition 1
CD-RW Primary Slave-Partition 1
OR SHOULD IT BE LIKE THIS?
120gb HD Primary Master-Partition 0
CDRW/DVD Primary Slave-Partition 1
40gb HD Secondary Master-Partition 0
CD/RW Secondary Slave-Partition 1
Thanks for the Help,
Hoss

I don't believe the first option will work at all.
I've seen different approaches but my preference would be to have the OS drive as primary master, then backup drive as primary slave. Put your faster burner as secondary master.

Thanks alot, I was not sure how that happend. Maybe why my computer is super slow when iam on the internet.
Iam going to change it as soon as i can, I installed the software that came with my new hd (maxtor) and thats the way the setup software set it up.
Thanks Hoss

Hello osprey4,
I've read many of your posts and have great respect for your knowlege and opinions. You state that the first option may not work, I would agree as the HDD's are on the secondary channel. However, looking at the information here would explain the benefits of having the hard drives on seperate channels. In the second option that hoss provided I would swap the CDRW/DVD and CD/RW.
I recently added a WD 160GB HD to my D8200 and currently have it set-up as you suggested. This is only because of the cable length restrictions, and I plan to look for different cables the end of this week. I had planned to place my 80GB O/S HD as primary master, the DVD Rom as primary slave, the 160GB as secondary master and the DVD/RW as secondary slave. My intent is to use the 160GB HD for storage and back-up, the 80GB for OS and work space. I look forward to your reply to this plan and anything else you may have to add.

I hook up my drives as you suggested, Then when i started my computer it says; HD Not Detected.
I have my jumpers set at Cable Select, And it still would`nt bootup. So i hookup my drives back the way they were and that is like this, Its wrong i know but its the only way i can get it to work.
Primary Master: CDRW-DVD device
Primary Slave: CD-RW device
Secondary Master: OS HardDrive
Secondary Slave: Old Harddrive
Any Help Would Be Appreciated,
Hoss

In response to the earlier comment, that source is correct, separating hard drives and optical drives has some benefits. The problem is that some Dell cases do not allow this configuration simply because of the way the drive cages and IDE cables are arranged.
