HDD password error code

I bought a dell XPS studio laptop at a yard sale for $10. The battery is shot, but I am getting one to replace it. The issue is the HDD has a password and I have no way to crack it and the person who sold it to me knew nothing about it. It was her daughters or something given to her from a friend. I plan on buying a battery and getting this working for a neighbor who is going into college, but doesn't have the money to purchase a lap top for school. His family is very poor, and after buying the battery I will be broke so buying another hard drive and windows to put into it isn't an option.

Password error code [02521]

The only way to have this fixed, is to call Dell, pay the service charge and prove ownership to obtain an override password.

The password is stored in a flash EEPROM on the motherboard, you could replace both the motherboard and hard drive.
