HELP PLEASE with DVD BURNING

I have been trying for two days now to burn a copy of my documents to a DVDR.  There is about 2.86 GB of work and (bear with me - Im a computer dummy) I go to documents, I select all and then I choose burn to DVDR.  I have also tried just right clicking on documents and send to DVDR.  Either way the process seems to start ok and I get a message saying say, 16 minutes remaining.  Half an hour or more later, I am getting messages with increasing time remaining, in some cases up to 19 days!!

I am assuming that the default factory burning program is Roxio Creator DE?  I see that on my program list.  My computer is a desk top Inspiron 531 and only about 10 months old.  I am going grey waiting for 3000 items to be copied.

Any help PLEASE.

Hi, Wymondham:

I'd like to find out more about your DVD drive and your blank discs. Please go to device manager and locate the model of your DVD drive. Also tell me the brand, speed and type of discs you are trying to use.

Ok, so you have one drive that's read-only and one drive that is read/write. Just so I'm not assuming, are you sure which is which?

There is a firmware update for your RW drive here. Try that.

Hi there - whilst Im a dummy, the puter isnt and the little coffee cup holder comes open when I click on the "burn to"  :)  so I cant really go wrong, it opens the right drive for me (F).

Ill try the link.  Very grateful for your interest.

DOH, I had already downloaded that update yesterday - thanks :(

Hi, Wymondham:

Ok, let's try this next. In the CD/DVD FAQ there is an article titled "code 39 error". If you follow that procedure, it deletes the upper and/or lower filters that can cause all sorts of problems. Please try that.
