help with power calibration error?

i can burn cd's fine but when i try to burn a dvd it get about to the 5% complete and it keeps getting a power calibration error i tried different dvd's and differnet burning software but i keep getting the error
i read something about a firmware update can someone explain to me how that works and is that my problem

Hi Ed2bizkit,

Go to Device Manager, click the "+" next to CD/DVD drives and lists the name/modles here, someone can check dell`s site for a possible firmware update.

hello you stold me to get information about my burner for a firmware update here is that info
_NEC dvd+rw ND-2100ad.do you think its the firmware thats causing that error? thanks for the help

Hi Ed,

First lets make sure the drive is running in DMA mode and PIO mode; Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 14. It should be in DMA mode 2.
Also, I am fairly sure you know this but I just want to mention it, the 2100 only supports writing to DVD+R and DVD+RW media.
The firmware update can address minor to major issues with a drive, so it is possible the firmware can help.
