The cds that I did burn. Her computer won't even detect they are there. Yet my computer reads her burned cds.

I have both a Mac, well actually I have 6, and I let my family use three.  I stress the word "let" because these are some of the BEST computers I've ever used and owned.  Who needs 6 computers?  Well I do!  Owning a Mac is the most amazing phenomenon, you buy one and realize exactly what you've been missing so you buy another and another and so on.  Why you ask, because they're cool, they're fun, and you want have one in every room in your house.

So you have a Mac mini here, a Mac mini there, an iMac here and of course you want one while your sitting and relaxing so you need a PowerBook/MacBook Pro there.  Soon you kids want one and of course you have to get a matching notebook for your wife, but with LESS power of course, and before you know it you have them everywhere!

So your sitting there thinking you need a computer for the serious things in your life and THAT is where Dell comes in.  You just don't want any Dell you want an XPS M1710 because you used to all those features you get with a Mac.  Now comes the real dilemma, which XPS M1710 do you get, the "Special Edition Formula Red" or the Metallic Black?  Then you see how cool those M1210's are and then your really thrown for a loop, should I get the M1210 or the M1710?  It's really really cool and it can come with the entertainment pack as Dell puts it, you know the one with the video cam built right into the LCD Screen that seems to be all the rage nowadays.

These are tough choices we must face in life!  Tusk, tusk, what shall we do?  I'm sooo confused.

What does all this have to do with your question you ask.  Well it's really simple when you think about it, you need to know how to rip CD's and possibly DVD's so each computer can read the others disks.

Here's your answer, there's something called UDF which means Universal Disk Format.  When you are actually preparing to rip the CD or DVD there is ALWAYS an option to choose the UDF feature and it's name pretty much explains what this is for.  Obviously the intention is to be able to use the newly "ripped" disk in ANY CD or DVD player.  Most of the time you will be given a choice to choose using the UDF Feature but most people don't know what that means or is there for, much less have even ever heard of such a word!

When you prepare your disks to be burned, ripped, written or pardon the pun, pass the internal gas thus making it external - farted, you can go to the user preference pane and make these selections your default settings or you can change them on an as needed basis.  Tip - use them as your default settings so that whatever you belch out can be easily read by ANY CD or DVD Player!

By using the UDF Feature which is available on every form of CD or DVD Writer you've allowed yourself to easily swap disk to and from any machine or device.

Oh, just in case your wondering, after a long debate I decided on the Metallic Black XPS M1710 because all of the 16 different color schemes (multiplied by 4 light zones) blend in perfectly with the notebook.

I hope I helped you out a bit or at the very least confused you even more...Buh Bye.

Hmmmmmm - I don't think so - sounds like you wouldn't cope with my screen being bigger than yours - LOLOL.  Oh, my hard drive is bigger too. :smileytongue:

The graphics card we won't discuss - too much on these boards about that already.  :smileyvery-happy:

Not sure why you are so enamoured of the BT keyboard and mouse though - I agree the keyboard has a wonderful touch to it, but the darn mouse is horrible, I'm about to buy a Microsoft laser mouse.   Unless yours is different to mine.

As to whether she took the advice - who knows?  A majority of posters don't post back.
