IDE Device Failed

Question

I ran the diagonstics and get the error 0F00:021D msg block 326656 illegal request possible use of incorrect machine?  How can I back up my hard drive if is failing?  Does this mean my hard drive failed and can I fix it with the diagnostic software?

Mount the drive in an external shell and attach it to a working system by USB, and copy what you can. If you can't copy everything, and need the data, you'll have to weigh the cost of data recovery.

If you really need your data and you have access to another PC go to http://www.ubcd4win.com, assuming you're using WinXP, you'll also need access to your installation CD, WinXP SP2, and follow the instructions for creating the bootable CD. Once you've created the CD, boot to it and burn your data to CD/DVD. Good luck!
