imminent disk failure warning

I was looking thru my system log on the event viewer and found this warning: Warning event 52. The driver has detected that device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 has predicted that it will fail. Immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent.

This message concerned me.......

So, I ran the diagnostic (F12 on bootup) and it gave me this result:
DTS short test
Test Result: Fail
Error Code: 1000-0146
Message: Unit 2: DST log contains previous errors.

A search for .log files did not bring up a DST log.

My computer shows no symptoms and shows very few errors in the file viewer except that one.

Can someone please interpret this diagnostic information for me? (past the obvious one)

I am runnng an Inspiron 5100 that is under warranty. 2.4ghz processor, 384mgs ram, 32mgs video ram, 30gig hard drive, with windows XP Pro.

Is it time to call tech support and send the computer in?
Thanks for any help.

im not really sure what dts failure means. anyway, you could try calling tech support to have it checked. as for the event viewer log, do what it suggests because your hard drive maybe is on its way to going bad. i suppose it hasn't been detected yet by the diagnostics because it will usually fail the hard drive's seek, write, read test if it's damaged.

Dts is a routine used to generate a log file.  Since you should be backing up regularily (depending on data and amount at least weekly), I wouldn't worry.

The hard drive tests all passed; read, write, verify, and SMART test.
