Inaccessible boot device error when installing windows 2000 server

Hello,

I am trying to install windows 2000 server on my Dell Inspiron 9100. I have a 60Gig hard drive.

After the 4 disk setup completes and starts loading windows 2000 server, I get a blue screen with the words STOP Inaccesible boot device ... and some error numbers (0x00000078, 0xF2463848, 0XC0000034). From what I read over the net, it might have something to do with unsupported IDE drivers... This is all new stuff to me. I think that I have something like a Ultra ATA 100 disc controller...  So what I did is try to install it during the setup process using the F6 option. I have the TXTSETUP.OEM cd in the drive when I try to add it, but the computer says PLEASE WAIT... and stays like that for ever. I tried using the Promise drivers.. I don't know if these are the right ones..

I need some help plz.

Thanks

Sounds like you may have a faulty HDD. Perhaps try running the diags from the resource cd that came with the system. If the HDD tests fail, you have a faulty HDD.

Ok, I found the problem. It's pretty studpid and simple. First off, I was using the CD Images to boot in setup mode. That was my first problem. Then don't work. What I did was buy a external floppy drive, created my 4 boot disks and installed it true there. Everything worked fine! Finally after like 5 days of trying different things.

Also, if anybody has problems getting the windows 2000 server installation screen (after the setup is done), you might want to try and turn off Hyperthreating in your bios. I read that on this forum and it worked. I'm actually curious.. do I need to have Hyperthreathing on?? I have it turned off and my stuff runs normally... well I haven't tried games yet..

Anyways,

Thanks
