Incorrect Function with TS-H292B CD Burner

My mother's Dimension 3000 is throwing a E:/ is not accessible, Incorrect Function error.  She has the TS-H292B CD Burner running Windows XP Home Edition.  I fear she may have deleted the CD Burning software as I'm not able to locate any on her machine.  I downloaded some trial software and was able to burn a disk but via Windows Explorer, when I try to access the drive, I still get the same error.  Any idea why this would be?  I checked her machine for Roxio but didn't find anything though I'm not entirely sure the file names to search for other than a Roxio folder which there isn't one.

Appreciate any help that can be offered.

We have that model and it came with Sonic Recordnow. You should have gotten a disc to install it.

When you look at drive properties, is CD recording enabled?

Unfortunately no CD.  But yes, CD Recording is enabled.

The problem though is as soon as you click on the drive from Windows Explorer, you get the error.  Audio CD's work just fine, but throw a CD-R or CD-RW in there...error.

The error is for any CD, or just ones that you burned?

It's for any blank CD-R or CD-RW that I insert into that drive.

I was mistaken regarding the CD Burner being on in the drive properties.  I don't know if it's on because as soon as you click on the letter with a CD-R or CD-RW inserted, you get that error so I can't access properties.

Right-click the drive and select properties.

To right-click the drive, move your mouse cursor over the drive in My Computer and click the button on the right side of the mouse. There is also a keyboard shortcut for the right click, shift-F10.

Thanks, I'm familiar with right-click.  Perhaps I wasn't clear.  When trying to access the drive (either left or right click) from Explorer, you get the error.  I haven't tried accessing via my computer but I suspect the results are the same.  Remember this isn't my PC, it's my mother's so I don't have direct access to it.

Any other suggestions?

This may be related to the deletion of the burning software.

Ok, so is there a way to get the software, without buying it?  Unfortunately her PC didn't come with full back-up disks.  Does Dell offer a download?
