Internal vs External CD or DVD Drive?

I have a 863 MHz (I think) Pentium III Dimension 4100 which I have upgraded to 512 RAM. My CD-ROM that came with the computer seems to be very slow and glitches out when playing a music CD or importing music to iTunes.

I am thinking of upgrading to either a CD-RW or even a CD-RW/DVD combo. Would it be possible or recommended to do that as an internal drive or should I do an external one. I had an Iomega external CD-RW on another computer and it never seemed to work properly so I am a little hesitant about external drives.

Any advice or recommendations out there?

Thanks!

Absolutely, you will find an internal drive will give you more satisfactory results. Pretty much any internal optical drive will work with that system (since I've used every one in my 4100): CD-RW, CD-RW/DVD combo, or DVD±RW. It just depends on your needs and budget. If you're shopping for a burner, I highly recommend adding the Nero OEM Suite, usually under $10, as your burner software.
