Invalid Boot diskette insert boot diskette into A:

Okay you guys, I know this might be a bit annoying but please understand. I have another older computer in my house and it is getting this message: "Invalid Boot diskette insert boot diskette into A:" I have no idea what that means but everytime I press a key it just pops up again. Let me first tell you, I'm not too good with my computer terminology so could someone please help me? Oh by the way, it is a Windows Millenium Dell Dimension Desktop. Sorry, I know this question has been asked a million times before but please help! I would appreciate it if someone could walk me through it...if you don't mind that is...

P.S. I figured out how to get to the startup menu but thats pretty much all I know how to do!

RoxyHurleyGurl17,
The first thing i would check is to make sure there is no floppy disc in the floppy drive-  when you boot.

Has the boot order been changed in BIOS so it's trying to boot from floppy first instead of from the hard drive? Go into BIOS setup (is that what you mean by 'startup menu?) and make sure your hard drive is listed first in the boot sequence. There should be instructions on that screen for changing the boot order sequence. You can put floppy second, if no CD, or 3rd after CD.

Maybe that solves the problem.

Hey thanks, that worked! Well, just one question, would it be smarter just to remove the floppy from the list altogether or just switch it to a 3rd or 4th position?

Glad the fix was easy! I wouldn't remove floppy from the boot list. It's no harm to leave it there, last on the list. Some day you might have to boot from floppy if the others don't work and you'll be glad it's there.
