What drive is installed in your system?  Look in the Device Manager .............

Start | Control Panel | System in classic view | Hardware tab | Device Manager

Click on the (+) next to DVD/CD-ROM drives.  This will reveal the brand and model.
Please post that.

The driver is generic to Windows and all optical drives use the same one.  What
problem is your drive exhibiting?

The problem is that there is no drive listed. It is an external cd drive and when i plugged it in, the new hardware wizard started, but could not recognize it. Even if i go to control panel and add new hardware, my only options are #1 mistumi, #something else, and #3 sony. Mind you this is with win95 as the win2000 is no longer on there and i can't get it back on without the cd drive. I have the boot disks for win2000 and the cd, but stuck without it recognizing the cd drive. Thanks

Windows 95.  You may want to try a post in the Software Forum under
Win OS - (Pre-XP) board here .............

As I remember it, with Windows 95 you need to boot with a floppy to
install a CD driver so as to then install a CD operating system.  It
has been too long for me to remember.  Try the above Win OS - (Pre-XP)
board above.  They may know better.

What I am saying is I think the users in the Win OS - (Pre-XP) may know more about
getting you running since the problem you have is not a mal-functioning drive.  You
have nothing to lose by asking them.

Its not an OS issue per say. Win95 is already installed. Installed by floppy. The computer just doesnt recognize the cd drive. If i could get a driver or firmware to the cd drive, i was thinking that would help.
