Latitude D510 Boot Problems

Today I had a slight problem with my computer and when I boot my computer, I recieve an error that tells me the following: “Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\ntoskrnl.exe Please re-install a copy of the above file” I have booted my computer up using the Window XP Professional disc I recieved with the computer and attempted to run the recovery console, I load up the console and get to the console and where I should have the ability to select a hard drive, there is none to try to repair this problem I then ran a diagnostic test and got the following error: “Error code 1000-0146” I then proceeded to run the following test and got the following error in a series that seemed to never end and the Msg: Block section seemed to repeat indefidently in the number (continuing up one-by-one): “Test Results : Fail Error Code 0F00:0244 Msg: Block 262556887: Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected” Is there anything I can do to recover this information or is the Hard Drive done for? Any help is much appreciated, thank you. Message Edited by RJohnson11 on 05-18-2007 02:37 AM

Remove the drive, mount it in a 2.5" external case, and connect it to a working system (or replace it, reload and patch XP, and do the same with your existing system). See what you can recover. You may be able to recover some or all of your data - if you cannot, there are businesses that specialize in data recovery. The cost isn't insignificant ($2,500+ is common) but if you need the data, and cannot read it, it may be your only option.

The drive is faulty - a new board won't help.

I have Dell shipping me a new system, according them it is a motherboard problem. I'll hook in the old drive in the new system before I ship off the old one to see if I can recover any data I suppose.
