lost cd drivers

I have just bought a used dell Inspiron 8500 and it looks great. problem is that after I replaced the dvd/cd-r and the hard drive I can not get windows to load. I have spent 3 days trying to get this to happen. but the copies of xp pro will not load. My copies of linux ubantu will but they dont accept the touchpad or any of the other programs. I do not have a utitlties disk for the machine. How am I to load this XHXTERENMK** program???
