Many errors, unable to do anything. Please help! PBR Failed...

Here's a small sample of the errors i've recieved in the past 3 days from my

Dell Inspiron 1150 Notebook Computer.

Quote:
*** STOP: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
(Only got this error once)

Quote:
*** STOP: Unknown Hard Error
(got this once)

Quote:
Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done.
Disk read error.
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.

Loading PBR for descriptor 2...failed.

When i run Diagnostics from the F12 menu, I get the following as Failed:
Quote:
Start DST Short, Failed (I dont know what this is?)

If i insert the Dell Re-Installation disk, and i hit "R" at the main screen, i am able to input commands, however... It says at the top: Drive C:\ is unknown (or something like that...)

and while im typing, the LCD screen turns off, but the power is still running, and i am forced to kill the power...
Here's what they said, and a list of the errors I've recieved. (It's like a different error everytime i turn it on.)

Any help would be nice, hopefully without reformatting as there's just one file i want to save.

Thanks alot, have a nice day! :smileyhappy:

The first thing you need to do before restoring the system is to replace the hard drive, which has failed.

Right... I understand what you're saying, however, i need to get one file off my system first. It means alot to my business, and its only a 5KB .TXT file, I know the path. Any way to save it to a flash drive before dealing with this matter? I know that the data is accessable by some means, as when I was talking with Dell Support, strangely, it loaded with no errors, and I could see all my files. He told me to restart the computer. I said "Shouldnt i save stuff first since it actually loaded this time?" they said "no, just restart". Thats what i did, and i wish i had backed up that file and ignored what he told me.

My warranty recently expired, so...

Well, they are sending me a copy of the restore discs so I can try something else...

Why would the drive fail like that?
The laptop wasnt touched at all, just turned off, and when I turned it on, it stopped working properly...
Never bumped around, or anything.

Remove the drive, mount it in a 2.5" external enclosure and attach it to a working system and copy what you need.

Any hard drive can fail without warning at any time.
