Master/slave settings

I have the original Dell (Nec CD) drive plus added a Memorex CDRW/DVD-RW drive. Both are set on "cable select" as that was the original setting for the Nec. Both drives have issues with finishing an install, etc.

Should one be set to Master and the other to Slave?

Many thanks!

Hi Dream Master,

In theory, it should not matter whether you use CS or the "old" Master/Slave settings, however in the real world we have seen the "old" way work better at times.
I would suggest you try a couple of things; click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, articles 14 & 13 to verify that you have DMA enabled for the drive. Use the Downloads link under Product support tab to see if there are firmware updates for your drives, Check for updates, patches for your burning software. Clear driver issue, Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3 of the same CD/RW link.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

Dell is always cable select. Do not use master slave. The Dell ide cable is what determin
s who is master or slave not the jumpers on the device. So leave all your drives on CS.
