media direct
i just upgraded my inspiron 640m to a 1 tb harddrive and i want to reinstall my media direct. i tried with the old disk but it won't let me, is there a link here somewhere with a newer version that is compatible with windows 7?

Hi dheeeman,
You may try to install Media Direct before reinstalling Windows 7 on the computer.
I am afraid that Media direct doesnot work in Windows 7 as the below steps shows to install Media Direct with Windows XP.
Using Media Direct disk install Media Direct. Refer the following link to install Media direct on the computer:

After reinstalling Media Direct, install the Operating system on the computer. Refer the following link which has steps to install Operating system:

To install the drivers in correct order, refer the following link:

It's what I thought. I've been reading about it since yesterday. I'll just windows media center or the media player.

Lots of problems reported with media direct and windows 7. It is best to skip it with windows 7. It really is a XP utility that is not recommended for win 7. Google-- Dell Media Direct with Windows 7 -- to see more. Notice that most of the hits are old.

I only have the old version of the media direct cd. i wil try everything later when I get home.

It works fine with Windows 7 if setup correctly. I have also got it working fine with Windows 8.

Ensure the partitions are setup before Windows is installed.
