Memory Card Help

Hi

Im new to all this posting stuff and my question may be in the wrong forum -- anyway.  I tried to put a flash/memory card from my camera into my reader (Inspiron 530S tower) and it didnt read anything.  Usually a green light comes on and the right balloons pop up.  The card works in the camera and I also tried another type of card from another camera and that one works in the camera but not in the desktop tower.  I can get the pictures off the cameras using the USB connections but I'd perfer to use the direct memory card readers.

I updated the BIOS as recommended on Dell but am at a loss.  My warranty just expired last week -- very frustrating.  I'd rather not pay for help unless its going to be a big deal.

Can anyone help?
