Message NTLDR is missing

Have just started using inspiron 1721. I have a Kensington docking station. When I start computer it reviews the drives, then gives the option for fast utility and then stops with the message "NTLDR is missing" and gives me the option to reboot with ctrl, alt, del. This goes through the same process. If I remove an auxillary Maxtor 500gig drive from the docking station and reboot the startup continues without trouble. Once windows starts I can plug in the auxiliary drive and it is recognized by the computer.
Is there a way to leave the hard drive on the docking station and not have to remove it to restart the computer?
Thank you WRW

Check in you bios settings and see if there is an option for USB Emulation.  If there is, see if you can set it to NO BOOT

you can try to go to your bios by restarting your computer, hit f2 and try to disable all your boot options except the hard drive then restart your computer.
