Missing AUTOEXEC file!!!

Since having some problems with spyware/adware I have been unable to play some longtime games. Message is:
C:\Windows\system32\autoexec.nt
sys file not suitable for running MS-DOS and MSWindows apps.
One tech helped me reinstall the autoexec and a couple other files but as soon as I rebooted they were gone again. I've tried dealing with tech support and spent hours on the phone with no success. Really don't want to reinstall the whole os. Can anyone help with this??? Thanks.

Here is the fix:

Are you up to date on Windows critical updates, with current realtime antivirus and firewall protection, and have you removed all spyware?

If not, your system is in need of security attention.

MartinFamily,

Thanks for using the Dell Community Forum.

What operating system are you using.  This really isn't an issue with the drive but the operating system.

Thanks for the fix. Went there and tried to follow directions but got a new window that said "Windows cannot open this file: config.nt. To open this file, windows needs to know what program created the file." Not sure if I did something wrong or problem cannot be fixed this way.

If you are trying to edit it, use notepad - it's a text file.
