missing CD/DVD drive

Question

I have a Inspiron 6400 windows vista premium notebook...I tried to burn a cd the other day and noticed my cd/dvd drive is missing..I dont have a clue as to how I can get it back....can someone please help me....I tried running the regedit under run bu nothing comes up

Look in the Device Manager ......... Start | Control Panel | System in classic view | Hardware tab | Device Manager Click on the (+) next to DVD/CD-ROM drives.  Right-click the drive and select Properties.Is there an Error Code (number) present?

Hey I checked and yeah it says Code 39...what does that mean?
