monitor issues

A thin vertical line has appeared on my monitor.  It stays no matter if on desktop, running different programs, etc.  It is pink when on a white or light background, blue on other backgrounds. ??????
Rebooting, reconnecting monitor to the hard drive - nothing makes it go away.  Help!!
I have an optiplex 280 connected to a Dell 19 inch flatscreen.

Petriska,

* Turn off both your computer and the monitor
* Unplug the monitor cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove both Digital(white connector) and the Analog (blue connector) cables from the back of computer
* Turn on the monitor. What do you see? Is the line still present? What specific model is it?

I tried disconnecting everything.  My computer does not allow DVI, (at least there is no place to plug the white cables in)so I use analog.  I have an add in graphics card so I connect using the provided video adapter cable.

I have looked at the dell color monitor user documentation disk and in the troubleshooting section I find a section devoted to the problem:  screen has one or more lines

the solutions are written as, perform monitor reset - did that

push auto adjust button - did that

adjust phase & clock controls via OSD - no help

perform monitor self test feature check and determine if also in self test mode - YES the line is still there in self test mode.

My monitor is a 1905FP ultra sharp flat panel.    Now what?
