NEC 7900A firmware problems...

Question

I have the dim. 4500 w/ NEC 7900A 24X. Speed went down to only 8X with the Sony CDRs i'm using. I researched it to find out that there is firmware to fix this problem. I did all this, did the firmware flash and nothing..drive is still at ver. 1.08 and not 1.09b like the firmware should be. I downloaded the firmware from dell and also from another site, used different disks and still nothing. I tried 5 times, each time I did the firmware flash, it said it worked and everthing should be changed, but when i restarted, nothing has changed. Anyone know what the problem could be and why its not changing the drive's firmware when it said it is? I never had any other problems with any bio updates or anything like that, any help asap would be appreciated, since i have about 100 sony cdrs left and burning at 8X now compared to 24X takes way too long for all the stuff i burn. Same problem here. I emailed tech support yesterday. I havn't tried any flash updates, yet. Waiting for reply first.

I had the same problem. Flashed firmware but no change in revision.

Did you ever solve this problem?  I've had the same experience and can't figure out why Dell doesn't take the firmware off the web site OR revise it so that it will work.  I've probably tried to update at least 5-6 times and I'm still at 1.08.

The 7900A Dell 1.09b firmware upgrade solution is as follows:

Go to bootdisk.com and download the Win98SE OEM boot floppy image and make the diskette
Boot from the 98SE diskette WITHOUT CD-ROM support
When you arrive at the A:\ prompt, insert your Dell 1.09b firmware diskette and run NR7900.EXE
The firmware upgrade will finish with no issues!
