Need help burning dvds.

Hello, I have looked all over the internet and cannot find what I am looking for. I have a dell dimension 2400 that I bought a couple years, but I have never tried burning a dvd. The drive is a Samsung cd-rom sc-148a. When I bought the PC it said it came with a dvd burner, and it even came with a program to burn them. But now when I try to burn a dvd, it acts like there isn't even a burner installed. Could it be that I restored my computer and it erased the driver or something? I really have no clue, but I can't find anything online about it. Please help if possible.

That drive is a CD-ROM, meaning it can only read CDs. It cannot read DVDs or write to CD or DVD writable media. Check your invoice to see if your system should have come with a CD or DVD burner.

Oh wow, haha. I feel stupid. I put the wrong drive down. The burner is.. HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4480B.

That is a combo drive, which can read and write CDs but only read DVDs.

So could I buy a new drive from a different brand or do only Dell products work on Dell pcs?

Any drive will do.
