Not Recognizing CD and CDRW

I know absolutely nothing about computers.  Last week the computer started making a noise like a jet engine taking off, now when I turn on the computer, It takes me to hit F1 to continue or F2 to go to setup.

If I do F1 it continues me to windows, however, under "my computer" it is not recognizing either my CD or DVD drives.  Of course I have a new MP3 player and want to install the software, but I CAN'T!!  I have downloaded the most recent BIOS update but that did not fix it.  I have checked all the cables in the box and everything is oka.  Can somebody please help?

When you hit f2 look in the drives config and see if they are seen there I'm having the same issues so look at my thread and see if you have tried all of the ideas there, good luck. I still don't have it sorted out

Hi Kevcon,

Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 11, article 2 and Clear the NVRAM; see if this helps.

Seasons Greetings!

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
