Operating System Not Found

When I try to start up my Inspiron 5100 after being turned off for at least an hour or more, I recieve an error message stating Operation System not Found.  When I enter the BIOS it lists my HDD as None.  Restarting the computer, or completely shutting down the system and turning it back on does not solve the problem.  However, if I simply let the computer turned on and sit at the screen stating operating system not found for about 30 minutes, then restart the computer, it will start up fine.  Any thoughts as to what could be causing this?

Remove the hard drive and then reinstall it.  This usually fixes this problem.  It is caused by a look connection of the hard drive to the motherboard.

I have removed and reseated my hard drive but the same problem still persists.  Any other suggestions?

Sounds like the hard drive failed.

Run Dell's Diagnostic program on your hard drive to see if it is bad.

The HDD passes the diagnostics....when the computer recognizes that there is a hard drive there.  Obviously the HDD Diagnostics doesn't run when the computer thinks there is no hard drive.

try pulling out the cd drive and then reboot. if there is a conflict with the ide chain, this might be the source of your problem.
