Optiplex 280

First problem

We have a quite a few optiplex280 drives failing "code7" Maxtor Drives.  We have replaced these drives. Still we have same issue after few months. Could the problem be bad MB or the power supply zapping the drives?

Second problem.

I have one room with machines going to sleep and will not wake up. I have to do a cold boot. We use the same image in all our rooms but I don’t have this problems in other rooms. I am using the same power options in all the rooms.

Need help.

Thanks.

hi,

the first problem i do not know... we have quite a few GX280s and no hdd probs.

About the 2nd problem.... if the machine type and the image are the same, it may
be the bios... are those the same version also ? And using the same settings ?

Hi,

We also have lot's of drives failing on our GX280, but I have to say that an error code 7 on DELL diagnostic doesn't always mean a hard drive is broken. Therefore if you have Maxtor drive I would recommend to also run the Powermax test program from Maxtoir itself, if that comes back with an failure you know for sure they are dead. We had several drives that came out good in the Maxtor test even after the DELL error code 7.

Just to give you an second test to see if the drive is really the problem.

Regards
Harry
