Password Authentication System
Please help! When I boot my computer it says:
_____________________________________________________________________________________
DELL COMPUTER CORPORATION
www.dell.com
Hard-disk #436........-...B, the system Primary HDD, is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access data on this hard drive without the correct password.
Please type in the hard-drive password and press Enter.

I can't get to anything, I'm passed the 1-year warranty, and when I called Dell they had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. I went into the BIOS and there are Admin and Configure Passwords set, of course Dell could not answer my questions on what these were. My HDD is disabled in the BIOS and because of these passwords I can't turn it back on.
I read a little bit and found out this has to do with serial numbers on the hard drives matching up to prevent thieves from stealing laptops and easily installing new hard drives. The only thing I can think of is when I replaced the hard-drive under warranty a couple of months ago.
Suggestions? Thank you!

You will need proof of ownership before they would consider giving you a master password.

Have you got the error resolved? I got the same exact problem RIGHT AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED. Did Dell give you much trouble?
