Philips DVD+RW-D01

I just bought this computer and I put in a blank DVD it will not format or see the DVD. I paid money for a DVD+RW/CD-RW combo and it says it is a DVD/CD-RW. Philips has never heard of the model number and who to call?

That's all it is suppossed to say. What software is loaded for formatting? You are using DVD+RW media, correct?

I am using MY DVD which is the software that it came with. I put in the blank DVD-R or a DVD-RW and it can't find the drive. It says, "DVD not functioning. Timed out."

You have to format the media first. My guess is it came with EZ CD Creator. You need to find that part of the software. There should be something called Direct CD....THAT is what you format it with. My DVD has nothing to do with formatting the discs.

As Daddyjaxx said, media must be DVD+RW, not DVD-R or DVD-RW to work.

I just bought a Philips DVD+RW/CD-RW combo drive with my Dell 8200 series pc. I was disappointed to find out that the drive CANNOT burn to DVD-R's. It can only burn to DVD-RW. I called Dell within 30 days and I am getting a refund for the drive. I will purchase one that can actually burn DVD-RW disks and DVD-R's. Dell should make this more clear to buyers. I'm sure that they are going to get a lot of them returned.

I believe the Dell DVD+RW-D01 is known as the Philips DVDRW208 and as the Philips DVD6001 IDE. The bottom line is that this device does not appear capable of using DVD-R Media.

The latest firmware is Version 1.61 and the file is called M5a04161.bin with a creation date of Feb 15, 2002 (aka in European Conventions, 15/02/2002). This driver is for the following Philips DVD Drives:

1.PHILIPS DVD6001
2.PHILIPS DVD+RW-D01
3.IDE-DVD DVDRW6001
4.PHILIPS DVDRW1208

Dell DVD Consumers and I are using the same family of DVD products since they all use the same driver.

My DVD was purchased at a computer show in Connecticut by a person known for selling Dell equipment. I have not tried to use the DVD or the firmware. I am simply returning my DVD to the retailer since it is clear to me that this drive will use DVD-R. I build my own systems and is not Dell based. My DVD is Model Number DVD+RW-D01 and does not match the picture shown in the Philips DVD Hardware Spec. The DP/N (Dell Part Number?) is 06M479.

You are getting the runaround.  There is nothing available or will there ever be to allow this drive to burn +R media.

please also remeber that there are different types of media

DVD+RW

DVD+R

DVD-RW

DVD-r the 2nd generation philips supports ony

DVD+RW and DVD+R

I believe SONY has anew drive that supports all

So when you go buy media for Dell branded Drives

Philips dvd+rw-d01 or 2nd generation dvd+rw-d28 please buy DVD+R or DVD+RW and try and get 2.4 certified discs

Hope this helped let me know

I too had the dvd+rw-d01 driver,  I called dell and complained that i thought i was getting a drive that supported dvd+RW and dvd+r media, they sent a Tech out and replace my drive with a second generation dvd+R/RW -d28, but I also found out that the software Sonic which dell installs on the 8200 to support the drive only supports DVD+RW media and they do not as of yet have better software that will support DVD+R media

SO i bought ulead movie factory for about 25.00 and downloaded their new patch for it Supporting the newer drives and DVD+r media

Ulead work fine supported my dvd+r media from maxwell 2.4certified

the dell tech said it goes as fast as 2.5 so memorex should work on it as well,

So in the end You need to be strong with the Dell costomer care person and try to get the upgrade

I found out after several phone calls that if you download roxio' s upgrade from cd creator 5 basic to 5.2.3 this appears to fix the problem I haven't actually had time to burn a dvd on +r media but since I downloaded the upgrade the drive does recognize the dvd+r media

maybe this is the solution.

Your DVD drive cannot burn DVD-Rs?  Hmmm?  Neither can mine.  I was thinking that that was because I bought the next generation of disc or something.  How can one find out if...How can I find out if MY DVD burner has that little, tiny, minor shortcoming?  Any help, please?
