Phillips burner..help
My Phillips burner just like all the rest of you guys is a piece of junk. I have fought for months now to solve the problem in it burning a cd dvd-r. One of the members here finally gave me a solution. It appears now to burn a dvd cd-r but when it is done the computer hangs up and the light on the cdrom goes and goes and the only way I can open the door to get the cd out is reboot.
Any help will be appreciated. Sure wish Dell would have recalled these dvd burners. They know they are junk and have had enough support calls to have paid for a recall in the time their techs have taken to try and solve a problem that can not be solved.

Hi Meggie,
I know many of you have had a long battle with this drive. A couple had have good success installing the latest update at Sonic`s site, PX Engine, other Disabled Sonic`s DLA program with fair results. Of course considering you have dealt with this for awhile, you may have already tried the suggestions.
Best Regards

Hi Meggie,
This really gives me the impression that maybe part of Sonic`s program is locking the drive or you might have two Packet Writing programs installed at the same time.
I have an article from Sonic how to remove it completely from your system but it does require some editing of the registry, take a moment and review it, Section 13-0, article 24 of the CD/RW link.
For what it is worth, truly sorry someone has to deal with these issues with new system.
Best Regards

Jeff, I used the final you suggested that Dell posted. Redid it for the second time as You suggested. It appears to burn the dvd-r cds now but at the end of it locks up the computer and I can't open the cdrom door as the light goes on and on and on. I finally have to turn off the computer and restart in order to get the cd out and use the computer again.
I have Sonic DVDit installed but never use it. I use Ulead to make dvds which works just fine or Nero to burn dvds.
Any ideas about this one? Should i get that file and install and see what happens or just del the sonic software?

Thanks Jeff. Not only does Dell give us a problem drive but also problem software to go with it. I know how to edit the registry so that is no problem.
I have always purchased Dell's and been happy but this experience has been a nightmare from day one.
What would we do without people like you to help. Thanks again
Meggie
