Please insert a blank or rewritable cd

Everytime I try to burn a cd I get this message "Please insert a blank or rewritable cd".
I have tried Nero,Sonic & just drag files to the cd-rom but always the same f... message. Someone who can help me? Tried many different cd's.

Fiskebob:

If your drive is a CD-ROM, you cannot burn files to a recordable disc. If this is not the case, please post your system, OS and hardware details.

Do you have Sonic DLA enabled? Do you know what model drive you have? This should be listed in device manager (Right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware tab, Device manager).

Go into Add/Remove programs and uninstall DLA and see if things improve.

I suggest you use the XP Burning wizard. Open Windows Explorer, select the file(s) you want to write to the disc, right click the selected files, hover over Send to, then select CD-RW (or DVD-RW) drive. Windows will copy the files to a temporary location and a little (annoying) bubble will pop up telling you there are files waiting to be written to the CD. Click that and a box will pop up showing files on the disc and files waiting to be written to the disc. Click File, Write these files to CD. This is a little slow compared to your regular burning program, but it can do multi-session and it's really convenient. It does not work with DVD-RW discs.

Audio CD-Rs made on the computer may or may not play in a car, home or portable CD player depending on the age of the equipment. Some can play everything, even MP3s, some can't play anything except commercially produced CDs.

Upset:

First, I always suggest e-mailing tech support rather than calling. They will get back to you and you'll get a quicker resolution.

Second, it would be preferable for you to post a new thread, rather than add to one already started. Please post you system, OS, drive model(s), and a brief synopsis of what you've already tried.

I suggest you also do yourself a favor and search this forum specifically for your drive model, using the search field at the bottom of the page.
