Problem adding 2nd HD to 8200
My 8200 has 1GB RAM, Windows XP Pro, all the latest updates to windows, BIOS A09. Primary HD is 80GB and set to cable select. Set BIOS to see second drive. Tried to add Maxtor Maxline Plus II, 250GB drive. It is also set to cable select. Cleared NVRAM. Whenever I connect the 2nd drive I cannot see either drive.
Also tried to add this drive to my 4600HT w/512Mg RAM, Windows XP Home, all the latest updates to windows, BIOS A09. Primary HD is 40GB and set to cable select. Got the same results.
Added a Belkin Ultra ATA/133 PCI card and attached the 2nd drive to it. Tried this in both PCs and got the same results. When the drive is attached no drives are recognized.
Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong or missing? Could the drive be bad?

It appears the drive may be bad. try the drive by itself and see if the bios sees it. Also try it set to slave and then master. Cable select doesn't always work even though it should.
